UNSPSC Classification Standard
The United Nations Standard Products and Services Code® (UNSPSC®), managed by GS1 US™ for the UN Development Programme (UNDP), is an open, global, multi-sector standard for efficient, accurate classification of products and services. The mission of the UNSPSC is to help businesses across the global supply chain increase productivity, reduce organizational costs, and improve efficiency.
UNSPSC is an efficient, accurate and flexible classification system for achieving company-wide visibility of spend analysis, as well as, enabling procurement to deliver on cost-effectiveness demands and allowing full exploitation of electronic commerce capabilities. Use of the UNSPSC results in reduced organizational costs and improved supply chain efficiencies.
Encompassing a five level hierarchical classification codeset, UNSPSC enables expenditure analysis at grouping levels relevant to your needs. The codeset can be navigated up and down to see more or less detail as is necessary for business analysis.
The UNSPSC has users worldwide representing 100 countries and is comprised of over 50,000 codes and descriptions for products and services within a hierarchical numbering system.
GS1 Ireland is a partner organisation of UNSPSC. To find out more you can go to the UNSPSC homepage http://www.unspsc.org/
