SSCCs or Serial Shipping Container Codes are used to identify items assembled for the purpose of transport or storage. SSCCs are typically used to identify outer cases, pallets or entire shipments. SSCCs may be combined with the use of the Despatch Advice for automated goods receipt.

SSCC structure

SSCCs are a fixed length 18-digit number composed of an Extension Digit, GS1 Company Prefix, a Serial Reference and a Check Digit. An SSCC may be encoded in a barcode symbol using AI (00).

The SSCC is constructed as follows:

GS1 Company Prefix >                    < Serial ReferenceCheck
