This Sunday Septmber 29th 2024 is International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste designated by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The day will highlight the critical need for financing to bolster efforts to reduce food loss and waste, contribute to achieving climate goals and advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
While the world produces enough food, 735M people go hungry globally. Reducing food loss and waste is vital for food security, healthier diets, and a more resilient & sustainable food system
Reducing food loss and waste will help transform our food system by reducing its environmental and climate impact, increasing food availability, contributing to food security and building reslilience.
The use of reliable data can reduce food loss and waste. With GS1 standards businesses can easily share product information, such as GTIN, expiry dates or batch/lot numbers. With better supply chain visibility and inventory management, companies can prevent food loss and waste.
