Welcome to GS1 Ireland Member’s News. This week we have news of a number of award nominations and wins for some of our members at the Good Food Ireland Awards and a few of our members announced as finalists for EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year! Read on for a full rundown of this week’s news.

Best of local Irish food and drink - Good Food Ireland Awards reveals finalists.

The winners of the Good Food Awards 2023 were revealed this week in a glamorous lunch celebrating the best of Irish produce.

The ceremony took place in The K Club in County Kildare and was attended by Guest of Honour Simon Coveney, T.D., Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment and some 300 guests, which included some of the country's best chefs, farmers, producers and artisans.

A number of GS1 Members were nominated as finalists while 3 of our members took home their respective awards. Well done to all!

Keogh's crisps, 4th ARQ and McCambridges among Entrepreneur of the Year finalists.


The finalists of the 2023 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year competition have been announced.

The 24 shortlisted entrepreneurs span a range of sectors including technology, manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, retail, consumer products, and engineering. The finalists are across three categories - Emerging, Established and International - with a special Sustainability Award presented to the finalist who is making the biggest contribution towards environmental sustainability through their business. One overall winner will be selected at a gala awards ceremony which will take place in November.

Finalists include GS1 members Tom Keogh of Keogh’s Crisps, Rosie Connolly & Paul Quinn of 4th ARQ and Michael McCambridge of McCambridges.

GS1 Ireland member Oliver Carty Wins €150k Brand Development Award

Oliver Carty & Family, a member of GS1 Ireland, has received the prestigious Love Irish Food 2023 Brand Development Award, which comes with a value of €150,000.

The company, which has been providing pork and bacon products for 70 years, is headed by Ted Carty.

The primary product range of Oliver Carty is obtained from the Little River Pig Farm situated in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford while the pork is processed with Atlantic sea salt gathered from the Beara Peninsula in west Cork.

Penneys launches its first circular product collection with more to come this year.

GS1 Member Penney’s is launching its first-ever circular product collection as the retail company moves to offer more sustainable options for shoppers.

The 35-piece collection has been designed to be re-loved or recycled and will be available to Penneys customers in the coming days. While the collection is a first for the retail company, there are more similar launches planned for later this year.

The collection, which includes menswear, womenswear, and kidswear, is based on Penneys new Circular Product Standard which is a framework for how it intends to design products now and in the future.

Handmade Soap Company Adds Premium Male Grooming Range

GS1 member The Handmade Soap Company have launched new premium wash and grooming products for men. The Handmade Soap Company use only the finest ingredients with only essential oils or plant derivatives used to fragrance its products. Brand stockists span independent boutique gift shops to large chains such as Avoca and Kilkenny, as well as selected Dunnes Stores and Boots outlets.

The Handmade Soap Company founder Donagh Quigley sat down with businessplus.ie to discuss how he started the company from his kitchen 13 years ago to now employing 36 people and exporting across Europe and America.
