Winners and runners up of the National Digital Awards announced

Two GS1 Ireland members were announced as runners up in the National Digital Awards recently. McSport.ie was announced as runner-up in the Medium Business Website of the Year and Ballykilcavan Brewing Company was announced as runner-up in the Sustainable Business of the Year category. The awards were held virtually and MC for the evening was national broadcaster, Jonathan Healy. The awards had twenty categories, and attracted more than four hundred entries from businesses, people and organisations across Ireland. There was no cost to enter the awards, due to the ongoing support from Permanent TSB and the generosity of the Awards’ category sponsors.

Vegan Sandwich Co announce new pop-up

The Vegan Sandwich Co are opening a new pop-up location in St. Stephen's Green Food Village. They recently made the announcement on Instagram and have assured southside vegans that the new store will be open in a few weeks with all of the vegan breakfast and lunch treats that their Smithfield base is known for.

Roaster at New Kid Coffee wins Irish Brewers Cup

Donegal man Keith Blackburn was announced as the best coffee brewer in Ireland at the Irish Brewers Cup final last week. Keith, who is the assistant roaster at New Kid Coffee in Letterkenny, impressed the judges with his brewing skills to take the title. He will now go forward to represent Ireland in the World Brewers Cup in Melbourne in September of this year. Keith competed against five other roasters in Bewleys, Dublin by brewing three identical cups of coffee for an expert panel of judges. The coffee he used is roasted at Donegal’s first speciality coffee roastery, New Kid Coffee, where Keith now works full-time alongside owner Richard Finney.

Writers’ Tears Irish Whiskey release limited edition

Walsh Whiskey, the makers of Writers’ Tears Irish Whiskey, plan to release a limited edition, collector’s bottling of its Writers’ Tears – Copper Pot expression to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the 1922 publication of James Joyce’s novel, Ulysses. The bottle design will feature a well-known location and chapter from Ulysses. Writers’ Tears will offer a year of events, both virtual and in-person, where Irish whiskey enthusiasts can come together to celebrate one of the most renowned novels of the 20th century.

The Writers’ Tears Ulysses Centenary Program will also include:

    • The release of a special, limited edition, collector’s bottling of Writers’ Tears – Copper Pot.
    • Viewings of and readings from a 1st edition copy of Ulysses (No. 1,479 of 2,000 published in 1922 by Egoist Press) throughout the year.
    • Live and online events in association with Sweny’s Pharmacy of Lincoln Place, Dublin. Writers’ Tears is a supporter of Sweny’s and its program of celebrating Irish literary greats.
    • Writers’ Tears is supporting a short film and pilot for a series titled Remarkable Women: The Tale Behind Ulysses about the six women who supported James Joyce so he could write and publish Ulysses. The film was written by Jane Applegate and Margaux Dupont, directed by Dupont and co-produced by VLAM! Productions in Paris and Greenlit Productions in Helsinki.
    • Writers’ Tears is supporting the international release of a hybrid documentary, also about the women behind the publication of Joyce’s masterpiece, being produced in the United States titled “Left Bank: The Film.” The production team are – Azadeh Nikzadeh: Producer; Lisa Reznik: Director; Terence Taylor: Editor & Motion Graphics and Eva Zelig: Co-Director.
    • Support of Centenary Bloomsday 2022 celebrations in Ireland, France and the United States.
    • Support of the Borris House Festival of Writing & Ideas in 2022.
    • Competitions associated with the centenary of Ulysses through Writers’ Tears online channels – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Writers’ Tears Irish Whiskey website.

Born Clothing opens new Galway store

Born Clothing recently opened a new store in The Eyre Square Shopping Centre in Galway city centre. Born is an Irish owned company with 22 stores nationwide, known for it’s up to date fashions and affordable prices.

Lakeland Kayaks help raise €2k for LARCC cancer support centre with donation

Lakeland Kayaks, based in Mullingar, generously donated two Atlas 2.0 Skipjak Kayaks to LARCC Cancer Support Sanctuary to raffle off. The winners were selected in December and over €2,000 was raised to support the services provided by LARCC including counselling and nurse support for cancer patients and their families.
