Xunison to raise up to €5m in funding

Xunison, a smart home technology company based in Dublin, plans to raise up to €5m as it continues to grow internationally after agreeing on a strategic partnership with one of Saudi Arabia’s largest telecommunication companies. The company, which was founded in 2016 and is backed by Enterprise Ireland, last week announced a deal with Saudi Telecom Company (STC) to develop and supply it with software for smart home and consumer communication technology. Speaking with the Sunday Independent, Xunison chief executive Ryan O’Donovan said he hoped the business could raise between €3m and €5m and that the cash would primarily be used for patenting new products.

Juspy wins three back-to-back international awards

Limerick-based functional food brand Juspy has recently scooped three awards including a prestigious star from the Great Taste Awards in the UK and the ‘Best European Lifestyle Food Products Company’ award from LuxLife Magazine for its newest product, a chocolate collagen protein powder for people on the go. Juspy also landed a top spot at the Ballymaloe based Entrepreneur Experience(™) taking place in November, which is supported by Cork BIC, Grant Thornton and The Currency. Limerick Food Startup Juspy was founded in 2018 by Leonie Lynch, an entrepreneur and wellness specialist. Having previously participated in Going for Growth, FoodWorks Ireland and New Frontiers, Juspy is available online as a single or subscription-based purchase from juspy.com, and on Amazon.

Baileys Chocolates launch new Christmas range

Lir Chocolates recently launched its Baileys Chocolate Christmas range. The festive range will include a Chocolate Bombe which will be available online from Lir Chocolates. Each pack contains three Chocolate Bombes, made up of Baileys flavoured milk chocolate with marshmallows housed inside the shell. Lir Chocolates was founded in 1987 by Connie Doody and Mary White and since then, the skill behind exceptional hand-finished and hand-decorated chocolates has been central to the business.

Potential HealthBeacon stock market flotation

HealthBeacon has hired a stockbroker firm for a possible stock market flotation that could see the Irish medtech firm listed in Dublin by the end of the year at a valuation of up to €100 million. The planned initial public offering (IPO) comes after the fast-growing company recently raised €6 million, bringing total investment to date to €25 million from backers including Enterprise Ireland and the venture capital investor Bill McCabe. Jim Joyce, the chief executive who founded HealthBeacon with Kieran Daly in 2014, expressed strong enthusiasm for a stock market flotation at an event hosted by Euronext Dublin last month according to The Times.

Suzanne Moloney of HidraMed Solutions among nominees for the 2021 EU Prize for Women Innovators

The European Commission has announced the names of the 21 inspiring women entrepreneurs shortlisted for the EU Prize for Women Innovators 2021. The winners will be announced at the European Innovation Council Summit in Brussels on November 24th and 25th. Seven of the 21 entrepreneurs nominated for the finals are from Ireland including GS1 Ireland member, Suzanne Moloney of HidraMed Solutions, which make wearable wound care solutions for people living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa. The prize is funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe programme for research and innovation and managed by the European Innovation Council (EIC) and SMEs Executive Agency.

Connolly Meats awarded gold

Connolly Meats was awarded gold in the Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards 2021 in the Christmas products category. Irish Black Butter was used to glaze the Aldi Specially Selected Cook in the Bag, Irish Reduced Salt Half Horseshoe Ham from Connolly Meats in Co. Monaghan. The product is the result of “Aldi exclusively working with Connolly Meats and the award-winning Irish Black Butter, bringing a truly unique product to the Christmas 2021 Irish Ham Range”. The Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards recognise the best in retail, wholesale and foodservice food and drink products available in Ireland. The award-winning ham will be available in Aldi over the festive period.

Jinny's Bakery featured on TG4

Sinead and Paschal Gillard of Jinnys Bakery featured on a programme called 'Moving West' on TG4 on Thursday 28th of October. They spoke to Mary Kennedy about moving to Leitrim and why the county is a great place to do business and raise a family. The series was produced by Dundara Television and Media and will feature stories from six western counties; Kerry, Clare, Galway, Sligo, Mayo and Leitrim.
