Biotech company to create 50 new jobs in Waterford

Horizon Therapeutics have announced that they will establish a manufacturing facility in Waterford which will create 50 jobs. Horizon Therapeutics is a biotech company focused on researching, developing, and commercialising medicines that address the needs of people affected by rare, autoimmune and severe inflammatory diseases. The company is purchasing the existing drug manufacturing facility currently operated by EirGen Pharma, located on IDA Ireland’s business park in Waterford. 40 EirGen employees are transferring to Horizon as part of the purchase and are among the 90 people to be employed at the new facility.

Millions of US TV viewers to tune into Co. Clare this autumn

Images of County Clare will be seen by millions of US TV viewers this autumn. ‘Ireland: County by County’, a television show produced by Peninsula Television, has been viewed by millions of US viewers since its launch last year. The new series, which has an episode filmed at multiple locations in Co. Clare this summer, is set to hit small screens stateside this autumn. The 30-minute programme airs on the Create/PBS television network and will be fronted by Irish television presenter Ciara Whelan, who is known for hosting Virgin Media’s prime-time travel series, ‘The Holiday Show’. The programme is being financially supported by Clare County Council, Tourism Ireland, the Department of Foreign Affairs, Bord Bia, National Parks & Wildlife Service and CIE Tours International. Production focused on various cultural, sporting, social and heritage aspects of County Clare. The food of the Burren will take centre stage during the episode, including food from GS1 Ireland member, Burren Smokehouse, based in Lisdoonvarna.

White Claw enters five new European markets 

White Claw Hard Seltzer is set to enter markets in Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany and Switzerland this summer. Dublin-based Mark Anthony Brands International, White Claw’s parent company,  developed the hard seltzer brand for launch in the US in 2016. Since its launch, White Claw has expanded into Canada, the UK, The Netherlands, Australia and Ireland in 2020. The product comes in a variety of flavours including Natural Lime, Black Cherry, Raspberry and Mango. It is now the #1 Hard Seltzer in the UK, Canada, The Netherlands and Ireland where it has captured 25% of the RTD market by value here in the 44 weeks since being launched.

Cocktail business started during lockdown wins West Cork business award

Six West Cork businesswomen have been recognised at the fourth annual Network Ireland West Cork Businesswoman of the Year Awards. The award ceremony was held virtually last week with guest speaker Louise O’Neill, who celebrated each of the 24 finalists which highlight women from a variety of industriess. Among the winners was Tara Copplestone of Foxglove Cocktails who took home the award for Emerging New Business Owner. Tara set up Foxglove Cocktails in early 2020 when she returned home from New York to see out lockdown, but an extended stay led her to start Foxglove Cocktails with her brother. Today, Foxglove Cocktails sells in local Cork markets as well as online and delivers all over Ireland. The winners now progress to the national Businesswoman of the Year Awards on 8 October in WIT Arena, Waterford.

Popular deli announce the opening of a second location

The owners of Greenville Deli are set to open a second location in Inchicore on July 9th. The original deli in Tara Street Dublin 2 opened in 2019 and quickly become known for delicious sandwiches, brunch boxes and great music. Greenville Deli are great supporters of small Irish food producers including GS1 Ireland members, Hot Chip Dublin, Lilliput Trading Co. and Savage Sauces.

Arderin distillery release a special Pride edition gin 

Created by Mór Irish Gin, the limited-edition Pride bottle is distilled in small batches from Arderin Distillery. The colourful bottle of berry-infused gin will see 50% of the profits go towards an LGBT+ charity throughout the year. They’ve previously donated to the LGBT Foundation and say they haven’t selected this year’s charity yet and are asking people for suggestions on their Instagram page. The Pride edition bottle is now available to buy on the Mór Irish gin online store priced at €39.95 for a 70cl bottle. The gin’s taste is described as “refreshing and bold with a mix of raspberry, blackberry and cranberry infusion alongside juniper, coriander, angelica root and rosemary".
