GS1 Data Synchronisation & Data Quality in DIY

Hardware Association Ireland as part of GS1 Ireland are participating in a working group that has been initiated by the GS1 in Europe Data Excellence Steering Committee to address the question of product information in the Do-it-Yourself (DIY) & Garden business. The goal of this working group is to develop a basic European data set and data quality guidelines for this subsector and to stimulate the use of GDSN. The GS1 Global Data Synchronisation Network, GDSN, connects trading partners (manufacturers, retailers, distributors, hospitals, wholesalers and group purchase organisations) to one another.

Those members interested in participating in this ongoing project should contact Jim Copeland on 01 2980969, or email jim@hardwareassociation.ie

What is it?

GS1 offers the DIY industry a solution for unambiguous and reliable product data throughout the supply chain. Through one central, international data pool https://www.gs1ie.org/DataSync/  suppliers can efficiently provide designated retailers with product data that is complete, consistent and in accordance with industry standards. GS1 monitors the quality of the product data and supports suppliers improving it.

Why does the industry need it?

Delivering the right products at the right time and place to consumers is paramount for both retailers and suppliers. Lost sales for the retailer means lost sales for the supplier as well. The availability of reliable product data is essential for an efficient response to consumer demand. However, suppliers have many customers and retailers even more suppliers, leading to a multiplicity of inefficient and error-sensitive data streams. Central exchange of product data and industry wide standards make this superfluous and save costs.
