Welcome to GS1 Ireland's members' news for week  2021. Galway based medtech company wins the top prize in Irish Times Innovation Awards and Irish frozen food company makes it their mission to end vegetable poverty. Read on for more.

HidraMed Solutions wins top prize in Irish Times Innovation Awards

Galway-based medtech company HidraMed Solutions has won the Irish Times Innovation of the Year award for 2020. HidraMed Solutions developed a new dressing system for those living with skin disease, Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS). HidraMed Solutions took the top prize in the Life Sciences & Healthcare category as well as the overall award.

The Innovation Awards 2020 are supported by The Irish Times in partnership with Science Foundation Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, SkillnetIreland and the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. The prize for the overall winner is a communications package worth over €150,000 comprising advertising and promotion across the Business, Technology and Innovation pages and the Business online section. The UCD Smurfit School will provide the winner with an education scholarship.

Rascals Brewing Company launch Valentine's 'Love Box'

Rascals Brewing Company have launched 'The Love Box' for Valentine's Day. The box contains eight Rascals beers; two Happy Days session pale ales, two Yankee White IPAs, two Jailbreak Helles lagers, and two Wunderbar IPAs. The box also comes with 16 Lily O'Brien's chocolates. Customers will also receive a QR code that will direct them to the perfect romantic playlist. The Love Box is €29.95 and can be purchased here. Rascals Brewing Co. will also be donating €1 from every webshop order during the month of February to NCBI Ireland.

At-home Valentine’s Gift Boxes from Stillgarden

Stillgarden Distillery has released three Valentine's Day gift boxes, ideal for celebrating Valentine’s Day either virtually or in-person.

The Cosmo Star-crossed Gift Box – €50

The Cosmo Star-crossed gift box contains Stillgarden’s Cosmo cocktail; a fruity and tart vodka cocktail with vibrant orange zestiness with a pink hue. The box also contains two glasses, two reusable straws, two premium mixers, Valentine’s card and two vouchers for the Stillgarden tour to be used at a later date.

Romantic Raspberry Soiree Gift Box – €50

O’Maro Amore Goft Box – €55

The Craft Irish Whiskey Co teams up with Faberge for new launch

The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. and Fabergé have partnered to release ‘The Emerald Isle Collection:’ a seven-piece, custom-made whiskey collection which celebrates the seven wonders of Ireland. As they explain, "With each of the seven bottles of ultra-rare, 30-year-old, triple distilled Irish whiskey, comes a bespoke Celtic iteration of the legendary handcrafted, Fabergé egg and an elegant 18-karat rose gold Altruist timepiece in a dark walnut experience box." Ahascragh distillery plans expanded with more tourism offerings

McAllister Distillers Ltd is seeking planning permission to convert the former Brookside Footwear store at The Square, Ahascragh to a shop and café. As well as converting the existing building, an extension would also be built at the back of the property to accommodate an outdoor seating area. Along with the production of whiskey and other spirits, the development will include a tasting room and museum. This craft distillery will produce both whiskey and gin and will employ between 8 and 14 people when finished between making spirits and guiding tourists. A decision is due in February.

Strong Roots launch first frozen veg foodbank

The first frozen veggie foodbank was launched by Olympian Nicola Adams OBE in conjunction with Irish plant-based food company, Strong Roots, and online food donation platform, Bankuet, to fight vegetable poverty in the UK. Congratulations Strong Roots for this fantastic initiative!

 

The February release of the Blackwater Tasters Club

The first Blackwater Tasters box of 2021 has been announced, and it contains two brand new spirits: a blood orange gin, and a bittersweet spirit made especially for Valentine’s Day. As Blackwater says on their Instagram page, "The bold blood orange gin is made with juicy blood oranges taking the lead vocals, with bitter orange and sweet orange on the harmonies. A post distillation infusion of blood orange slices gives a bare hint of natural colour and a vibrant fresh orange palate." The box also includes 'Love Potion No 5 Spirit Drink' which is a "bitter-sweet liqueur containing pomegranate, finest grade saffron, five different sorts of peppercorns, pink roses, fresh citrus peel, cardamon". With each delivery, there’s an invitation for Blackwater Tasters Club members to join a virtual party with the Blackwater team to hear the stories behind the spirits, with a tasting and a demonstration of the suggested cocktails.
