GS1 Ireland Members win big at The National Organic Awards


GS1 Ireland members won big this week at The National Organic Awards. Presented by Bord Bia, the biennial awards are in association with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

Waterford Distillery’s took the retail award at the National Organic Awards for their Gaia 1.1, which was the result of a pioneering project to produce Ireland's first certified organic whiskey.

Organic yogurt company Glenisk received the 'Marketing Campaign Award' for its partnership with Self Help Africa to plant more than a million trees in Africa and Ireland.

Burren Smokehouse in Co Clare picked up two awards; the 'E-Commerce Award' for the use of digital marketing to boost sales of their salmon range and the 'Business in the Community Award' for their 'Taste the Atlantic - The Salmon Experience' which is an interactive visitor attraction that tells the story of Irish salmon.

Pipin Pear received an award for a new organic chilled product, 'Baby Beef Ragu', which uses recyclable packaging.

The Nest Box Egg Company won for its Golden Irish 10 Organic Egg box, designed for the export market.

Finally, Dublin's Begley's Fresh Produce Group were recognised for their 100% compostable packaging for their organic leeks.

Women & Agriculture Award Winners


The winners of the Women & Agriculture Awards, sponsored by FBD Insurance, were announced this week at a virtual award ceremony here. The prize fund for the 2020 Women & Agriculture Awards exceeded €8,000 and was sponsored by FBD Insurance.

Anne Marie Feighery of Feighrey’s Farm Beetroot Juice, Co Offaly was recognised in the 'Innovation in Agriculture & Food' category. The finalists in this category included Eva Milka, Gaelic Escargot and Marita Collier of Drummond House Garlic.

Norma Dinneen of Bó Rua Farm, Co Cork, was announced as the runner-up for the 'Innovation on Farm' Category. The finalists in this category included Kylie Magner of Magners Farm.
