The GS1 Registry Platform
The GS1 Registry Platform is a registry of keys that includes the following components:
Infrastructure
The technical basis of the platform including APIs, analytics
and security.
Global Data Dictionary
The dictionary and rules for data that ensure a common
understanding and interpretation of attributes in the GS1
Key Registry.
GS1 Key Registry
The place where a very limited set of attributes related to
GS1 keys and licences are stored. The GS1 Key Registry
can be queried (using simple APIs) to get responses that
are designed to enable specific business solutions such as
Verified by GS1 and Fighting Illicit Trade.
Data in
This refers to the set of capabilities to get data into the GS1
Key Registry, including key assignment, data upload and
data quality checks. Activate is an example of a “data in”
service capability.
Data out
This refers to the set of capabilities to get data out of the
GS1 Key Registry. Using a common API interface, responses
to queries will provide the most complete data possible.
Fighting Illicit Trade and Verified by GS1
Fighting Illicit Trade and Verified by GS1 are the first business solutions supported by the GS1
Registry Platform. They rely on continually updated GS1 key and licence data from all MOs.
Fighting Illicit Trade (FIT)
The FIT business solution checks GS1 keys (GLN, GIAI and
GTIN) before transforming them into keys used to trace
all tobacco products sold in the European Union. It was
launched on 30 March 2019.
