ASD Achieves GS1 Certification

Dublin, Ireland - 8th October 2012

GS1 Ireland has announced Aerospace Software Developments (ASD) as a Certified Solution Provider status through its Certification programme.

“ASD is extremely proud to be the first company in the Aviation RFID software sector to be certified by GS1. The ratification of the Tag Data Standard (TDS) in September 2011 is a very significant milestone for the industry in the implementation of a truly global and beneficial standard for all in the industry.  This allows all aircraft manufacturers, airlines, OEMs and MROs to gain from the huge benefits of standards-based RFID solutions” said Dave Browne, Managing Director and Founder of Aerospace Software Developments.

Checking on-board safety equipment, which traditionally takes hours, can now be checked in minutes. Security applications can now alert the crew to possible tampering with equipment or access in seconds. Working with major airlines in the USA and Europe ASD is providing airlines and component manufacturers with RFID applications that deliver much needed operational and financial benefits that also ensure compliance and improve safety standards.

Airlines are able to achieve a significant ROI very quickly by RFID-tagging their legacy parts.  Whether the task is tracking high-value rotable components, monitoring the expiry of life-limited components, checking for the presence on aircraft of life vests, oxygen generators, medical kits, slides, rafts and other items, or the daily aircraft security check required by TSA in the US, ASD’s software can save an airline up to 99% of labour time and ensures minimum component waste.

“For a global industry like Aviation, it is absolutely critical to be aligned with GS1 standards. For the industry to move forward it is essential that an RFID encoded tag applied to an aircraft part by a mechanic in one location, can be read by a mechanic or authorised personnel when the aircraft lands in another location, anywhere in the world” Browne added.

Commenting on the Certification Award, Mike Byrne, CEO GS1 Ireland said: “Through its achievement of GS1 Certification, Aerospace Software Developments has clearly proven their understanding of GS1 EPC RFID Tag and Data Standards and a commitment to the development and implementation of standards-based solutions."
