How to calculate a barcode check digit

You can use this form to calculate the check digit (final digit) for a GS1 identification number such as a barcode number (GTIN), a Global Location Number (GLN), a Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC) or a Global Service Relationship Number (GSRN). Simply enter your prefix and chosen item reference digits in the left box and click the Calculate button. Your complete GS1 number will appear in the right-hand box.

Please enter the 12 digits for the retail (consumer unit) barcode you wish to complete i.e. your GS1 global company prefix plus the unique item reference.



Please enter the 13 digits for the outer case barcode you wish to complete i.e. your GS1 global company prefix plus a new, unique item reference. Your first digit should be a 0 for fixed weight items or a 9 if the goods are sold on a variable weight basis.



Please enter the 17 digits for the SSCC or GSRN you wish to complete i.e. the extension digit, your GS1 global company prefix and the sequential reference number.



Please enter the 11 digits for the retail barcode you wish to complete i.e. your GS1 UPC prefix plus the item reference.
