GTIN 8
GTIN-8 (EAN-8) barcode numbers are restricted numbers allocated on a one-by-one basis to specific products, where the product size or available print area is insufficient to accommodate a standard sized EAN-13 barcode symbol.
You can check the symbol size requirement for an EAN-13 barcode in our Express Guide to Retail Barcodes and if the minimum size fits on your label, you should use an EAN-13.
A GTIN-8 licence is authorised:
-
When the EAN-13 exceeds either 25 percent of the printed label area or 12.5 percent of the total printable area.
-
When either the largest side of the printed label is less than 4 centimetres² or the total printable area is less than 8 centimetres².
-
On cylindrical products with a diameter less than 3 centimetres.
Before you apply for a GTIN-8, please contact our Helpdesk to provide the product name, description, and packaging dimensions for authorisation.
