GS1 wins Checkout Fresh Industry Innovator Award

GS1 Ireland was delighted to receive the "Industry Innovator" Award at the 2016 Checkout Fresh Awards, held June 2016.

Checkout Fresh Awards 2016 Industry Innovator GS1The award is in recognition of GS1 Ireland’s continued work in the area of food traceability, which included the recent multi-phase project called e-LOCATE, enabling best-in-class traceability for fish industry players.

In addition to the eLocate Framework for traceability, GS1 Ireland has continued to work with a number of food producers and retailers to implement best-in-class traceability systems, in conformance with the global GS1 Traceability Standard. A recent recipient of this award was Riverview Eggs in Cork (view video case study).

Commenting on its award, Mike Byrne, Chief Executive of GS1 Ireland said: "We are delighted to receive the Checkout Industry Innovator award for 2016. We greatly appreciate that the award recognises how GS1 Ireland has worked over a number of years with manufacturers, brand-owners and retailers to help them implement world-class traceability standards through the use of our barcodes and solutions. We are also proud of the role we have played in helping businesses to minimise the impact and cost incurred in the event of a product recall, either of their own or of their suppliers’ products."

Checkout Fresh Awards 2016Building on this work, in the past year GS1 Ireland launched its fTrace solution to support companies wishing to provide customers with traceability data directly to the “palm of their hands” via their smart phones. Solutions such as fTrace bridge the gap between digital and in-store product information while also supporting traceability and safe, reliable food chains.”
