Simon Coveney TD, Minister for Agriculture, Marine and Food, received and addressed the visiting party prior to touring the Riverview Eggs facility. Minster Coveney said: “The visit of such an influential international delegation is of huge significance not only to Riverview Eggs and Carton Brothers, but also to Ireland as it reinforces just how rigid we are with our traceability from farm to fork.  I would like to congratulate Riverview Eggs, Carton Brothers and their counterparts GS1 on a truly important traceability and stock system.”

Mike Byrne, CEO GS1 Ireland said, “Carton Brothers and Riverview Eggs are two leading examples of what companies can achieve in terms of exemplar efficiency and traceability when GS1 Standards are put at the heart of business processes. GS1 Ireland is pleased to support the Minister, as policy maker in this key sector, and all our members in the Food Industry in their endeavour to deliver high quality traceable food to their customers locally and in the global market.”

Justin Carton, Director of Information, Carton Bros said, “We at Carton Brothers have placed traceability at the core of our business and this has enabled us to achieve visibility and efficiency in our supply chain and has significantly contributed to the success of the company. We were delighted to host the visit by the Russian and Polish Egg and Poultry officials to our facility and we were impressed by their interest in high quality production and traceability standards. We hope the visit will lead to greater contact in the future as we all strive to ensure the quality and traceability of the fresh food we produce through a continuing commitment to GS1 supply chain standards.”

DJ Kelleher, Managing Director Riverview Eggs said, “Over the last two and a half years, Riverview Eggs has co-developed a unique system with GS1 Ireland. Riverview Eggs is the only egg producer and packer in Ireland to have such a system and at the “press of a button”, we can determine which retailer or customer got what eggs, when they got them and from what henhouse they were produced.  This allows for instant traceability and complete transparency regarding the origin egg and the supply chain of Riverview Eggs.”

Mr. Kelleher added “Being recognised on an EU scale, as the standard to emulate, is a testament to our long history of commitment to excellence with particular emphasis on product quality control and safety which is very important to all our customers such as Dunnes, SuperValu, Centra, Tesco Ireland, as well as Pallas Foods and the symbol groups.”

The visit was arranged by GS1 Ireland and their colleagues from GS1 Global Office and GS1 Russia.
