The following GS1 identifiers are most commonly used in retail and supply chain applications:
The Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) The GTIN is a number used to uniquely identify trade items worldwide. The GTIN is most commonly used to identify consumer products/traded items and outer cases. By following the principles of GS1 identifiers, users can design applications to process data automatically with the guarantee that the identifiers used are globally unique and will not conflict. The most obvious example of this scanning at the point-of-sale where a single GS1 identifier in a bar code can be scanned in any country worldwide and will not conflict with any other item. |
