January 1, 2010 will see the worldwide launch date for a new type of bar code called the GS1 DataBar™ (formerly RSS). GS1 DataBar symbols can carry more data in the same amount of space, or the same quantity of data in less space.

GS1 DataBar symbols provide many advantages and potential business applications for both retailers and manufacturers. GS1 DataBar symbols will join traditional bar codes as an option at cash registers and check-out counters.
