GS1 Ireland is governed by a supervisory board of approximately 20 representives drawn from its membership base and includes particpants from both retail and supply organisations from many industry sectors.  The Supervisory Board of GS1 Ireland is responsible for determining the overall strategic direction and objectives of the organisation.  The work of the Supervisory board is supported by several committees and by the GS1 Ireland team.

GS1 is the quality assurance mark for business data around the world.  We play a vital role in developing and implementing open standards across all industry sectors.

Our name "Global Standard 1" reflects our growing contribution to the world of supply chain management standards.  GS1, as a single global standards body, provides support to organisations in 24 Industry sectors globally, to help improve the efficiency of their data and operations management.

Globally we deliver supply chain standards to over 1.3 million companies with over 5 billion scanning transactions per day.  Our bar code standards ensure that any product, case or pallet can be scanned and read in 155 member countries around the world.

At a national level, GS1 Ireland is responsible for promoting the development and use of bar coding, scanning and Electronic Data Interchange standards.   Since its inception, membership of GS1 Ireland has been growing steadily and now totals over 2900 member companies. Use of the GS1 Standards has spread beyond retail grocery and is now utilised in many areas such as Healthcare, Hardware/DIY, FMCG, Food Traceability and Waste Management.
