About GS1

GS1 is a not for profit organisation dedicated to the design and implementation of global standards and solutions to improve the efficiency and visibility of supply and demand chains globally. The GS1 system of standards is the most widely used supply chain standards system in the world.

GS1 numbers and barcodes permit organisations of any size to order, track, trace, deliver and pay for goods across the supply chain, anywhere in the world.

GS1 Ireland also offers a wide range of services to help businesses use these standards and technologies, including technical support, implementation advice and consulting and training through our Professional services division.

Benefits of using GS1 Standards
  • More efficient business systems through the automation of key processes and access to real-time information.
  • Greater productivity due to improved tracking of stocks and materials, which reduces administration time and costs.
  • Increased sales by reducing or eliminating out-of-stock situations.
  • Improved Traceability, enabling product recalls to be targeted accurately and problems traced back to the source.
  • Faster Order to Cash Cycle.

It's not always easy to explain what GS1 does in simple terms. That's why we've created this brochure. It provides an overview of our activities and the important role that global standards play today.
